Q: What Are Hormone Pellets and how do they work?

A: They are bio-identical hormones that are inserted surgically under the skin in the fat of either the upper, outer hip area or lower abdominal fat area. They are not metabolized through the liver, therefore they are safely used in patients with history of blood clots or liver disease. Hormone pellets are activated by "cardiac output" therefore when your heart rate increases, so does your hormone level. This delivery system allows your body to use the right amount of hormone from the pellet when you need it.

Q: How often do I need hormone pellets replaced?

A: For women: usually every 3-5 months. For men: usually every 5-6 months; depending upon how active you are. The more exercise you get, the more hormone you will use.

Q: What is LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone) and how can it help with Autoimmune Disorders?

A: LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone) is a compounded prescription that is prescribed to those patients with Autoimmune Disorders that can help to reduce systemic inflammation, improve the immune system and reduce pain. A once daily or twice daily dose of LDN has been shown in multiple studies to reverse the damaging effects of autoimmune conditions in the body.

Q: What is a Tower Garden?

A: An indoor/outdoor vertical aeroponic/hydroponic growing system that allows you to grow your own produce (up to 28 plants at a time) in a 3 square foot area.

Q: How did you shift your "sickness-based practice" into a "wellness practice?"

A: By educating each and every patient about their human physiology and the effect their daily habits have on their overall health & wellness. We strive to help our patients "stop subsidizing their illnesses and begin investing in their wellness." We help patients reduce their use of prescription medications through supplements, nutritional and lifestyle modifications.

Q: What happens if I need to be hospitalized, and you cannot admit me to the hospital?

A: I have an arrangement with Dr. Shah, who will oversee your care if you are hospitalized. She will then release you back to my care after you are discharged. You may also choose to have the "hospitalist" admit you since he/she only sees patients that are admitted into the hospital. Upon discharge, you will be instructed to make an appointment with me within a week of being released.

Q: Why do I have to have a baseline thermogram in two parts, one now and one in 3 months?

A: In order to establish stability in the breasts, a thermogram must be done as baseline and repeated in a 3 month period of time to be sure that there is no active process going on in the breasts. If an abnormality is detected, a mammogram and/or ultrasound will be ordered to further assess the condition.

Q: At what age should someone start screening the body or breasts with thermography?

A: It is recommended that men and women ages 25 and older establish a baseline thermogram followed by annual thermography to assess for changes.

Q: What is (DITI) Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging or Thermography? What are the advantages of getting a Thermogram?

A: Thermography does not emit radiation of any kind. The camera does not even touch the body but rather picks up the heat pattern coming off the body. There is no compression of breast or body tissue or enclosed spaces to lie down in. Thermography can map pain throughout the body and can pick up inflammatory breast cancer unlike any other technology. Thermography is used as an adjunct technology together with mammogram, MRI, etc. for earlier detection of disease.

Q: How does Juice Plus+ differ from multivitamins?

A: Multivitamins are man-made synthetic, isolated vitamins in non-physiologic doses. Juice Plus+ is actual food in a capsule or chewable. It is whole food nutrition that has been juiced, dried and packaged in capsule or chewable form. It contains 15 raw, fruits & vegetables and two gluten free grains. The sugar is removed in the convenient capsule form.

Q: Why do I need to take Juice Plus+ each and everyday?

A: Our bodies require at least 7-13 servings of a variety of fresh, raw fruits & vegetables in order to prevent disease in our bodies. Most people struggle to get all that they need daily. Juice Plus+ bridges the gap between what we are eating and what we are supposed to be eating. We still need to eat raw vegetables in our daily diets. Juice Plus+ is the consistent nutritional foundation that acts as our bodies' health insurance policy.

Q: How can I get Juice Plus+ FREE for my children?

A: Juice Plus+ has a program called the Children's Health Study. Children between the ages of 4-18, 19-25 undergraduate college students can receive Juice Plus+ for FREE for 3 years and 4 months with a sponsoring adult who orders at least the Juice Plus+ Orchard/Garden Blends.

Q: Why do I need to consume Probiotics daily on purpose in order to improve my immune system?

A: Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that we must consume daily in order to grow a balanced ecosystem in our small intestine. We live in a world that is full of antibiotics (soap, foods, meats, dairy) that kill off our good bacteria that we need to fight off disease. 80% of our immune cells line the digestive tract.

Q: Why is sea salt so important for me to use daily?

A: Hawaiian or Celtic Sea Salt contains over 80 vital minerals that the body needs to optimize metabolism. Our bodies need to consume at least 1/2 teaspoon of high mineral count sea salt each and everyday.

Q: What is an Infrared Sauna and how would it benefit me?

A: Infrared heaters warm the body in the same manner as natural sunlight. FIR heat therapy uses the wavelength of the visible and non-visible light spectrum of sunlight that heats the body normally.

Traditional steam saunas raise the temperature of the air to a very high level within the chamber to warm the body. Some people have difficulty breathing in this extremely warm air. FIR saunas work differently. Instead of heating the air within the enclosure, FIR saunas heat the body directly. The result is a lower power bill and deeper tissue penetration. In the FIR sauna, the body perspires and receives all of the healthy benefits but avoids the harmful and extremely hot air of a traditional steam sauna. FIR saunas are safe for all ages.

FIR has the ability to penetrate, refract, radiate and reflect. The human body can absorb FIR because of its deep penetrating ability. When FIR penetrates through skin to the subcutaneous tissues, it transforms from light energy into heat energy. The thermal effect within the deep layers of the tissues causes bloods vessels and capillaries to dilate, promoting a better blood circulation, and the heat so produced helps to get rid of body toxins and metabolic wastes through sweating.
